Job Description:

Position Summary:

The focus of the Creative Director position is to direct, supervise and oversee creative projects of the graphic design team on Tervis drinkware. Tervis drinkware includes multiple forms (i.e.: plastic and stainless-steel tumblers and water bottles). This person will identify key design trends for the future by working with outside partners and key retailers. They will oversee the creative development for each line from initial creation to final release ensuring that deliveries meet or exceed expectations of design objectives, appeal to key consumer targets and retailers and remain within the creative budget. Responsibility covers complete drinkware portfolio including both licensed and non-licensed graphic designs. This is a hands-on position that shapes the creative brain, acts as the creative conscience, and leads the graphic design strategy of the company’s core products. This position directly supervises the Graphic design team for Tervis drinkware; setting the stylistic and artistic direction for all cup designs aligning with most up-to-date trends while appealing to the brand’s core consumers.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and motivate graphic designers to deliver 'unbound' thinking; supervise, support, and inspire them to create high-value drinkware which is differentiated from competition and aligns to the brand identity

  • Identify key graphic and design trends (with eye to the future) that will drive sales of Tervis cups at shelf and ensure they are translated into award winning graphic designs that appeal to our target consumers

  • Ability to challenge the design decisions of the team and provide thoughtful, inspiring feedback to get best designs

  • Develop a thorough and effective line review process to properly evaluate work and provide feedback.

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration across all interacting departments (with a heavy connection to sales and licensing)

  • Provide an active voice to executive leadership by providing insight into design concept development and communicate final designs in a persuasive manner

  • Partner with project coordinator to proactively manage creative teamwork schedules

  • Ensure projects are on strategy and cost effective to produce

  • Determine if there is a need for external or internal resources to enhance creativity (full-time hires, freelancers or agency) and manage as appropriate

  • Lead performance management of direct reports, inclusive of engagement, motivation, and discipline as necessary

  • Responsible for the translating of marketing objectives into creative strategies, design, and plans, across all mediums

  • Develop and maintain a quality standards and processes to streamline the project lifecycle

  • All other duties as assigned

Experience and Skills:

Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of effective creative leadership experience

  • Degree in Graphic Arts or equivalent experience required

  • Prior experience in consumer product design and in taking those designs to market is of critical importance.

  • Ability to meet deadlines with ease and reports status updates effectively

  • Must exhibit strong leadership and decision-making skills

  • Passionate about new technologies and emerging trends

  • Strong knowledge of housewares design principles

  • Strategic and analytical thinker

  • Trained eye for design, style, and color

  • Ability to lead presentations to executive leadership and retailers and align them to drinkware graphic design strategy and execution
